Factory Mission & Pioneer Mission”
New Britain New Ireland Mission is known as the ‘factory mission’ and ‘pioneer mission’ in PNG. The former phrase is undisputable, because, during the early days of the church in PNG, NBNI provided more than 50% of the work force than any other local mission. And pioneer mission is also obvious because, in most parts of PNG, missionaries from NBNI planted more churches and organized mission establishments. I am a direct product of their work.
One of our greatest challenges here now is to maintain and preserve the two iconic phrases above. Regrettably, over the past 15-20 years, we have failed terribly by not living up or maintaining the above statements.
As a matter fact, we have lost, through retirement most of our pioneer missionaries and we have failed to proportionally reproduce replacements’. Consequently, we have never deployed or exporteded enough workers to other provinces as missionaries.
Therefore, in a more deliberate effort, the local mission has unanimously voted to prioritize human resource capacity building over the next 5-10 years. This is part of our 2013-2020 strategic plan.
Location, Population and Current Status of the NBNI Mission:
As the name itself depicts, three provinces comprise this local mission; East and West New Britain, and the New Ireland province. Our head quarter is situated in Kokopo the capital of East New Britain which is also the region’s main town and the tourism hub of PNG.
